Yesterday I tried really hard to come up with a way to fake watercolours in Photoshop (more for kicks than anything else; I have too much fun with the real thing). Everything I tried failed epically, so I defaulted to tones. Today I was trying to do NO SUCH THING, and ended up with this surprisingly watercolour-y effect. The moral of the story is, uh… you succeed when you don’t try? I don’t even know.

Bishounen were a big thing back in my anime days (known mostly as “bishies” to us teenage female anime nerds) and I’ve drawn my share before. My immense, disproportionate share. Oddly enough, I think my art has evolved to a point where I can’t draw proper, feminine bishounen anymore; at some point over the years, my style crossed a threshold from everybody looking sort of girly to everybody looking sort of masculine. This image is dedicated to my 15-year-old self, who totally would have designed this guy and, at some point, probably did. Except his hair would be way longer, and I wouldn’t have bothered to reference the trenchcoat so it’d just be a really long coat, with a zipper or something. Then I’d draw him looking sad and standing against a grey brick wall (the only background I ever did in those days) and I’d name the whole thing after an Evanescence song.
