December 9: Victory Redux

December 9: Victory Redux

Original Post: September 14

A reminder that the rule for September’s images was that they be done in an hour, because if I had two or three more hours on this thing I think I could have fixed a lot of issues. Still! The major problem with the original was that the composition absolutely did not tell the story properly – a couple of people commented that it looked like she was sneaking up on a sleeping guy, and I agree. While this one has problems of its own (namely its sort of waffley quality – define planes properly, dammit!) I think it’s a lot more clearly the aftermath of a fight.

Soooo yeah I’m way behind again. SOUNDS FAMILIAR. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, when I started these, I wasn’t getting much, if any, freelance work, and I could easily make this the top priority in my day. Now I’ve got actual work for money, these tend to get shunted off to the side a little. Still, I’m gonna make it to the end of December with 31 pieces – Christmas is coming up, and I’m gonna take a week or so off of work, hopefully, and get back on track with these.

Maybe not better. Definitely different? Playing around.

Day behind, work to do, yadda yadda. I may have been mildly distracted by the new World of Warcraft expansion pack.

This one is visibly miles ahead of the original, but it’s still sort of goofy-looking to me. I often reference anatomy – including in this case – but if this were a real painting and not just an hour-long daily, I’d probably reference that lighting as well. Because it’s weird.

The original wasn’t terrible, and this one’s mighty similar, but I really wanted to give Lizzie a more befitting pose. Plus, it’s just a cleaner drawing overall.

I was having one of those days where I felt like I’d forgotten how to draw. Started drawings on a couple different topics, over and over, for over an hour, and just kept erasing. Was almost ready to give up and go to bed when I saw this linked from Bobby Chiu’s twitter. I read the first point, grumbled, and got back to work. Sometimes, it’s good to have a reminder.

Having some trouble with feet. Looks like it’s time for some shoe studies!
