I have almost a whole year of art, and that’s almost a whole year of experience and experimentation. So for the month of December, I’m going to go back to some pics from the last 11 months that didn’t come out as nice as I’d like, and I’m going to revisit them. A good way to cap off the year! Obviously some months lend itself to this better than others – by its nature, the entire month of July won’t be touched here – but this was pretty much the December plan from day one, and I still find it hard to believe that I’ve made it this far.
One month to go!

Why am I having so much fun with this style? Why can’t I stop? (I’ll use a different style tomorrow. Really. This one just cried out for it.)
Also, y’all should check out this blog. Emily Carroll and Vera Brosgol are two of my favourite artists and they [...]

Kept the original design, mostly, a few tweaks. Just a new pose and style. I do most of my inking either by hand with a brushpen or digitally in Illustrator, but inking in Photoshop gives this messy, chunky kinda style that I’m starting to like.

The original was one of those pictures that seemed okay when I first did it, but slowly, over the course of days and weeks, I was beset by a creeping hatred. (Sometimes the opposite happens, too, but not nearly as often.) My poor Dee deserved better. He didn’t look [...]

Not that much better than the first one, but, uh… better enough? Wolf heads are hard.

Having some trouble with feet. Looks like it’s time for some shoe studies!

The original wasn’t terrible, and this one’s mighty similar, but I really wanted to give Lizzie a more befitting pose. Plus, it’s just a cleaner drawing overall.
I was having one of those days where I felt like I’d forgotten how to draw. Started drawings on a couple different topics, over [...]

Day behind, work to do, yadda yadda. I may have been mildly distracted by the new World of Warcraft expansion pack.
This one is visibly miles ahead of the original, but it’s still sort of goofy-looking to me. I often reference anatomy – including in this case – but if this [...]

Maybe not better. Definitely different? Playing around.

A reminder that the rule for September’s images was that they be done in an hour, because if I had two or three more hours on this thing I think I could have fixed a lot of issues. Still! The major problem with the original was that the composition absolutely [...]

Rose, now with 80% less derp.
LOOK, I’M ALIVE. There was work, then there were people visiting and then I was sick and now I have like a week to do all these for the whole month, but I HAVE THE POWER.

Pose is a little boring, but I like the drawing. As with the original, based off this photo.

I don’t know if I actually like this one better, but sometimes, I just need to draw a Del.
Why do I always draw her with one shoe? I can’t even remember if that ever happened in the comics or if it’s just a thing I started doing for no reason.

The original had the issue of it being impossible to give a kid crab features and not have it look kind of insane. Now it looks less insane, but she appears to have tiny demon horns or something? I dunno. I shoulda given her a big ol’ crab claw.

Getting more worried about getting done by the end of the month, but I persevere.

True story: in the time since drawing the original image, I have become unhealthily obsessed with a different trenchcoated angel. So how am I sticking to dailies instead of faffing off to draw stacks of Cas fanart? Sheer willpower.

The original drawing of Hare looked way too goofy – dude’s a leader, and he’s supposed to have a sort of strong-jawed nobility to him, instead of the sleepy-eyed derpiness that the first attempt portrayed.
I guess it’s appropriate that, in the month that I revisited previous months’ work, I would repeat August’s crash and burn. It’s a sad way to end an otherwise good year. After all, when I started this, I expected to flame out by the end of the first month. It was something [...]

A bit of a cheat, as I drew this on January 1st instead, making it a full year after the first image. Despite the utter flameout that was December, I still wanted to finish this year as I intended – redrawing the very first image of the year, taking a look [...]
