I am going to try and come up with a better name for this theme at some point.
Portraits? So I can practice them! Doctor Who? Because I spent 3 days trying to come up with a good portrait theme and settled on the fact that a new, proper season of Doctor Who starts in like two days, after having only specials for a year now and as a big ol’ fan I feel like I have to celebrate. Besides, it’s a show featuring people of all ages, races, and genders (there’s got to be some extra genders in there somewhere) which makes for fun portraiture.
Look, I’m a nerd, okay?
I miss you, Christopher Eccleston, you big-eared weirdo. I watched your one season of Doctor Who like 15 times, probably. (In order to grab the screencap I drew this from, I watched a lot of different scenes from the first episodes of New Who in slow motion and without sound, and was slightly [...]
My latest post yet – I really did draw it last night, but was away from home and thus could not scan and the like. The next one should be posted a matter of hours from now as I have my grubby little digital hands on the brand new, 11th-Doc-debuting episode, and shall now [...]
From today’s NEW episode with this particular NEW Doctor, who I’ve decided I quite like already!
I don’t much like this one, but I think it’s a passable likeness, at least.
Rose herself also brings out a lot of mixed feelings. I liked her, and then I kind of hated her and then I REALLY hated her and now, who knows. I guess I’ve kind of made peace with the [...]
Why yes, I DO have a huge, girly crush on John Barrowman. What, am I supposed to deny it?
…Torchwood-era Jack, because he has better hair.
Poor ol’ Mickey the Idiot, the honorary tin dog of the group. At least he managed to come into his own in the end, instead becoming Mickey the Badass Alien Fighter. He may not be my favourite character, but he certainly had some of the best character development of the series thus far.
Soooo if I’m doing companions in approximate order, and Sarah Jane was never a new series companion but she WAS an old-series companion who showed up in the new series, and then got a spinoff series of her own… oh, whatever.
I do watch, and enjoy, the Sarah Jane Adventures, at any rate. The first [...]
How much do I love Martha? So much! Easily my favourite new series companion thus far (barring Jack, but come on, you can’t compete with Jack).
I really have to work on toothy smiles that’re a little more “childlike glee” and a little less “your hide will make a fine poncho“.
Donna Noble’s not having any of this shit.
And is also looking a good 10 years older. Oops.
I still like hair.
I quite like Amy thus far, but man, all her expressions seem to come with an overlay of mild surprise.
I probably should’ve done all the minor companions first, but none of them are played by John Simm.
Most of his actual episodes were sort of awful, but man, the dude does crazy-evil so very, very well.
Was Adam a companion? He was sort of crap at it and was booted out after like one episode, but I think he still counts.
Also, I seem to have missed my 100th pic – this is my 102nd! Still got a long way to go, but I’m thrilled I stuck by it this [...]
Aaaand here goes a companion that never even traveled in the TARDIS. So whatever.
Tomorrow’s probably won’t get posted ’til Thursday, as I’ll be away again and I’ve managed to kill my webcam when I was rooting around the guts of my laptop, cleaning out the fans. (Oops?)
I hate her. Hate hate hate. I only drew this out of some bizarre, arbitrary sense of duty, even though she’s hardly a proper companion at all.
I kind of hated most of season 2 – too much Doctor/Rose “OH WE’RE BESTEST FRIENDS” going on, not to mention I’ve never really warmed to Cybermen – but I freaking love the The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit two-parter. That whole “I’m right behind you. If you look at me, you will die. [...]
WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
I’ve never been more annoyed at the series and at the Doctor as a character than at Harriet Jones’ ousting. Yes, the bad guys were leaving. Presumably to ENSLAVE OTHER PLANETS. Not your problem, Doctor?
Well, I suppose it’s not like she was replaced by an evil mastermi- OH [...]
Does she have a last name? I don’t think she does.
The likeness here is iffy, but it probably bugs me more because I spent so much time staring at Eve Myles in Torchwood. (If she’d been smiling, it’d look way more like her. I don’t like Gwen as a character, but Gwyneth [...]
I’m sorry, Nancy. You deserved better. The Empty Child/Doctor Dances two-parter is, in my opinion, the best episodes of any television program ever, and you’re an awesome character, and look what I did to your face.
I really liked Lesley Sharp in Afterlife, and she didn’t disappoint in her turn on Who. In fact, Midnight was one of the all-around strongest episodes of that particular season. RTD writing tense psychological drama, with nary a rubber monster in sight. Who knew?
And here we get into actual historical figures! It was either gonna be her or Shakespeare. If I’d known I’d be drawing this while watching David Tennant in Hamlet on PBS, I’d have gone for Shakespeare.
Q: Am I the only person who really didn’t like the Human Nature/Family of Blood two-parter?
A: Probably.
I couldn’t even remember her name! I had to Google it!
Late post, much? So sue me, I’ve just moved. Expect posts to be more than a little late over the next week or so, until I get internet of my own and can stop leeching off 8-bit. (I love you, 8-bit!) New theme starting today, but probably won’t be posted until [...]
