November 20: Tara

November 20: Tara

FlatRose: “Tara has golden eyes and fair skin. Her features are closer to sharp than soft and she isn’t afraid to look you in the eye. She doesn’t smile too much but isn’t frowning either. She’s just afraid of being hurt again as she has been hurt before. Her left hand is covered in scars radiating from her wrist so she often keeps it in her pocket.

I imagine her standing with her feet spread shoulder’s width apart, her coat unbuttoned to show a wool sweater and her hands shoved into her pockets. She has black feathery wings that she keeps half open behind her. When folded up they measure from her ears down to her ankles, to give you an idea of their size. She’s dressed in a very long coat that goes down past her knees, a fur shawl and an aviator’s hat. Her super light blonde hair just peeks out from under the hat, curling upward slightly. She’s wearing sheepskin boots that are worn under her boot-cut jeans.

Oh and she’s 18 years old, 5′ 7″, of a slender but slightly muscular build (especially around her shoulders from her flying) and not particularly well endowed.”

I feel like this does not look nearly as nice as it should for the amount of time I put into it. (Always an annoying feeling, when something that doesn’t come out quite right takes twice as long as things that do.)

While I don’t think this is your must stunning piece yet (I really liked the one you did on the 8th, the one of Addison Sawyer) I really think that this is very good.
I like how you did the wings, I’ve always had trouble trying to draw them and seeing them done well by somebody else just makes me want to take out my sketchbook and try again. Oh well, I guess I’m gonna have to keep trying to see if I can do them correctly.
Great drawing!

Thanks! Good ref helps for wings. I have a stack of photocopies from some random bird anatomy book that I tend to go back to – anything that helps you see how they’re broken down into parts.
