A Qilin, or Kirin in Japanese, is (according to Wiki) “a mythical hooved Chinese chimerical creature known throughout various East Asian cultures”. There’s a lot of variation about what it looks like, so this is sort of a greatest hits collection – head of a dragon, antlers of a deer, scales of a fish, hooves and tail of an ox, and a deerlike body. I’d never heard of it before yesterday, when one friend suggested I draw it. Today, another friend – entirely unprompted – suggested the same thing. How could I refuse after that?
More experiments. Ink and an awful lot of Photoshop.
